Samuel Pepys and his famous diary
Date: 30th Jan 2026 @ 8:51am
This week we’ve been learning all about Samuel Pepys and his famous diary, which has helped historians understand what really happened during the Great Fire of London.
To our surprise, Samuel Pepys’ diary even arrived in our classroom! 📜
The children loved reading parts of what he wrote and discovering how he described the fire in his own words.
Inspired by this, we created our own Great Fire diaries. The class tea‑stained their paper to make it look old and worn, just like Pepys’ diary might have looked. They then illustrated their pages with drawings of the fire and what Samuel Pepys might have seen from his window as London burned.
The children were so engaged and produced incredible work 🔥🏙️📚
