Welcome to EYFS
A very warm welcome to our Early Years Foundation Stage here at Marus Bridge Primary School!
Our Reception classes are a happy, safe and nurturing place where children are encouraged to explore, play, discover and grow. We want every child to feel valued, cared for and excited about learning from the very first day they join us.
The EYFS Curriculum
Our Reception classese follow the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, which covers seven areas of learning and development:
Communication and Language – developing listening, attention and speaking skills.
Physical Development – building strength, coordination and a healthy lifestyle.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building confidence, resilience and relationships.
Literacy – fostering a love of stories, reading and writing.
Mathematics – developing early number skills, shape, space and problem-solving.
Understanding the World – exploring the natural world, people and communities.
Expressive Arts and Design – encouraging creativity through art, music, dance and role play.
Our children learn through a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated play. Our continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors, allows children to follow their interests while developing key skills.
A typical day in Reception
Every day is full of exciting opportunities to learn and grow. A typical day might include:
Morning welcome and routines.
Short whole-class sessions such as phonics, maths, and story time.
Continuous provision (indoor and outdoor) where children explore, play and practise new skills.
Lunch and playtime.
Afternoon creative or foundation curriculum-based activities, circle time and reflection.
No two days are ever the same – and that’s what makes learning in Reception so much fun!
