End of Year Newsletter 18.7.25

Dear Parents/Carers,

Firstly, a huge Thank you on behalf of the staff for any gifts bestowed on staff this week - immeasurably kind. The children have made us proud in many ways this year, and wrapped it all up with outstanding (and at some points emotional) end of year performances from reception pupils and year 6. Thankyou to Y6 and your families for everything - your contribution to school life, determination through the years and leadership of our younger pupils. We wish you all the best as you embark on the next stage in your education.

Farewell Mrs Sanderson

Our esteemed colleague and school business manager, Mrs Sanderson, moves to the finance team at the Rowan Learning Trust central office, where she will continue her work for our school and others in the Trust. For the past nine years we have been lucky to have her on site, leading the office team and supporting the school in many different ways. We will miss her! We are pleased to say that Mrs Jackson will be assuming the office manager role in school moving forward, ably supported by Mrs Hemingway.

OFSTED Feedback - Update

Since the visit of OFSTED in Spring term we have reflected on the area for improvement. This was based around knowledge in a couple of curriculum subjects (a result of our old curriculum which has since been renewed). Since the visit, we have audited the subjects and analysed where any gaps still are. Teachers have planned and steadily added short lessons, inputs and activities that we believe are filling those gaps. We will continue this process in the coming term until we are satisfied these gaps have been eradicated.

Football and Netball Update

What an amazing way to end the year for our football team. They made it to the final of the WOWS Cup, narrowly beaten in a tight match on a sweltering Friday night at Laithwaite Park. However, they finish the season as LEAGUE WINNERS - thoroughly deserved. We are very chuffed about this, as I know they are! We are equally proud of our netball team, coming in second in the WOWS netball league - well done!

School Games Award

We are proud to celebrate being awarded the School games award for the third consecutive year! This is awarded for dedication to school sporting activities and competitions. Thankyou to Miss Johnstone for her valued leadership of PE at Marus Bridge. Mrs West will be taking over in the coming year.

Attendance/Holidays

Well done to the children who got 100% attendance awards - a record-breaking number this year! Please help with attendance by not booking holidays in term time. I understand the cost implications, but ultimately it is learning time that is lost. It is important you read and understand the attendance protocols and government legislation shared regularly by Mrs Bish to avoid reminder letters or fines.

Reading at Marus Bridge 2024–25 - Message From Mrs Holden

What a fantastic year it’s been for reading at Marus Bridge! From our youngest learners in EYFS enjoying National Storytelling Week, to Year 1 tackling Alien Word Reading Day, our school has been buzzing with a love for books. We’ve welcomed parents as Mystery Readers, celebrated World Book Day in style, gathered for stories around the Christmas Tree, and been commended by OFSTED for our love of reading. A huge thank you to our parents for your ongoing support – you play such an important role in helping our children grow as confident, enthusiastic readers.

Finally, thankyou as ever to our wonderful staff, volunteers and to you for your valued feedback and support - it is appreciated. All the very best for an enjoyable summer and see you on Tuesday 2nd September.
